Budapest Dance Theatre

Budapest Dance Theatre - Pure dancing. Budapest Dance Theatre was founded in 1991 by Béla Földi, a choreographer, dance artist, dance teacher, and Harangozó and Jeszenszky Awards winner. Since 2017, the art director of the ensemble has been Alexandra Sághy, a Harangozó Award winner dancer and choreographer, who received 'Best Author of the Season' Award from the Association of Hungarian Dance Artists in 2018 for her performance entitled Három nővér (Three Sisters) and in 2022 for her performance entitled See You in the Air!. The ensemble performs an average of 50 plays annually: dance theatre performances for children, young adults and adults, as well as 'Theatre in Education'. Organised by the National Dance Theatre, the ensemble regularly performs in the most important venues in Budapest and the country, and also participates in major Hungarian dance festivals. Over the past 30 years, the company has collaborated with a number of Hungarian and international choreographers and has been a regular guest performer abroad as well. It has represented the rich culture of Hungary and Budapest at well-known venues and festivals throughout Europe and overseas.

Since its establishment in 2001, the National Dance Theatre has maintained a great professional relationship with Budapest Dance Theatre. It supported a number of our premiere performances for children and adults by offering venues, formerly at Buda Castle, later at the Castle Bazaar, and these days at Millenáris Park, as well as providing financial support for creating joint productions. Three of our performances for children, Mother Holle, Pinocchio and Around the World in 80 Days, have been revamped in recent years, and as part of a long-term collaboration, these performances are available to seasonal ticket holders. Our major premieres are presented at the National Dance Theatre before we start taking them to domestic and international stages.
